A registered dietitian on a quest to help my clients (and now you) find the best clean products on the market based on your need ❤️
As a registered dietitian, I’m constantly asked for clean, healthy product picks—especially protein bars. Many clients want 20g+ protein but feel overwhelmed by labels and unsure about ingredient quality. So I bought and personally tested 9 top brands to find the best options, prioritizing ingredients, taste/texture, and protein content.
It’s worth noting that everyone’s nutrition goals are different. Most of my clients want clean ingredients and a healthy, filling snack that gives them a protein boost between meals. For that, I look for bars made with real, well-sourced ingredients, free from anything artificial, and have at least 20g of protein.
Here is my clean protein bar checklist:
✅ High quality protein
✅ No artificial sweeteners or flavors
✅ Naturally sweetened with dates or honey
✅ Minimally processed
✅At least 20 g protein
✅ Tastes great
To ensure consistency, I tested the top chocolate flavors for all brands and tried each bar over the course of several days to give each a proper evaluation using the followin approach:
1. Researched and Bought 9 of the Top Brands - Based on my own research and customer reviews.
2. Reviewed Ingredient Lists - Assessed transparency, third-party testing, and the presence of any processed ingredients or sugars.
3. Reviewed Protein Content - My target was to find bars with at least 20g of protein to ensure a substantial protein boost
4. Evaluated Sweetner Profile - Whole-food sweetness (dates/honey) vs sugar alcohols vs artificial sweeteners — and likely digestive tolerance.
5. Taste and Texture - I personally tasted each bar to judge overall taste, texture, aftertaste, and mouthfeel.
6. Scored each product to find a winner - I scored them on the factors that mattered most to me, and compiled the ranking below!

Cleanest Bar Reviewed: Hands-down the cleanest bar I’ve tried—grass-fed collagen peptides, colostrum, and real-food ingredients you can recognize. No artificial ingredients or sweetners.
High-Quality Nutrition: With 20 g of protein and functional benefits (like immune support from colostrum), it’s clear this bar was built for performance and health.
Tastes Great: This is one of the tastiest bars I tried! The chocolate is rich without being overly sweet, and their berry flavor tastes like actual berries. No aftertaste at all and doesn't get stuck in your teeth like other chewy bars.
Great Satiety: Keeps you full and satisfied without feeling heavy or bloated.
Lactose-Friendly: A perfect option for those who are lactose intolerant or prefer dairy-free protein sources.
I wanted more crunch: This is definitely my favorite of the chewy bars. Personally, I’m more of a crunchy girl—the bar has a little crunch from the cacao nibs, but I would’ve loved even more!
Can't buy at retail stores: The product is great but sometimes I wish I could just pop into a store and grab more.

Balanced Nutrition for Satiety: With 20 g of protein, 7 g of fat, and 9 g of fiber, this bar nails the trio that drives fullness. The combination of protein and fiber will keep you feeling full and satisfied.
High-Quality Nutrition: With 20 g of protein and functional benefits (like immune support from colostrum), it’s clear this bar was built for performance and health.
Clean, Organic Ingredient Profile: Jacob stands out for its use of clean, organic ingredients — no GMOs, no seed oils, and no artificial sweeteners or flavors. It’s one of the most natural formulas in the lineup.
Good Protein to Calorie Ration: At 220 kcal for 20 g of protein, Jacob has strong protein density that rivals leading bars like Barebells or Think, with way cleaner ingredients.
Very Chewy, Sticky Texture: The bar is very chewy and tends to stick to your teeth — some crunch could make it more enjoyable to eat.
Didn't Really Taste Like Anything: I felt like Jacob lacked flavor. It wasn't bad tasting but I would have wanted a richer more chocolate flavor like the Equip.
Most Expensive Bar I Tried: Given the quality of the ingredients, the higher price somewhat understandable — but at almost $6 per bar I am not sure how often I'd buy these.
